After reading this, i was wondering if there would be a day when i would call somewhere else, rather than Singapore, my home. With family and friends all in Singapore, how possible is it for me to emigrate elsewhere and call that place home. I've never understood how ppl could actually have the courage to move elsewhere, esp to a foreign place. Well, perhaps i'm just too coward. Perhaps, i'm just too well-taken care of.
Singapore. Is just a place where I grew up in. If i grew up in other parts of the world, that part will probably my home. It wont be Singapore that I've attachment to. The only thing that binds ppl to a place, in my opinion, is probably emotions and relationships. Even if one day the physical state of Singapore is no longer recognizable, Singapore will still be my home, as long as my love ones are around me. Indeed, like what yanjun said, "home is where the family is". Not the place.
I've always questioned the fact when they say they preserve this and that to enhance a citizen's place of belonging. Because, i really dont think that that's the most important factor in binding a person to any particular place. What really binds a person to a place is his emotions - how he feels when he's in a particular place. Let's say, school. If the person has a lot of friends and is popular amongst his friends, well-liked by all, that's the place where he'll feel sense of belonging to. When my entire family is overseas, home doesnt feel home anymore. It's just a place where you stay in. When my family travels together, no matter where we are, it's really easy to even call a hotel room "my home", simply because everyone is there. To me, it just a simple concept.
Perhaps, Gong Li is a lonely woman?
i would dance my life away
